Thursday's Dinner

Last week's dinner - or, should we say, feast - went wonderfully, and I do believe we succeeded in getting everyone to taste something new to them!

Our next dinner will take place on Thursday, August 19th, this time with a vegetarian Italian menu.

Italian food is something of a staple in this country, but all too often misrepresented. Not everything is swimming in red tomato sauce and covered in cheese- in fact, Italian cuisine is very dependent on the natural quality of the raw ingredients, and the most successful dishes are those which focus on bringing out the flavors contained in specific vegetables and herbs. Since there are so so so many delicious, fresh vegetables ripening at this specific time of year, we decided that the best way to celebrate them would be to let them take center stage. So, without further ado, we bring you:

Bruschette: 3 Different kinds of bruschetta: heirloom tomato & garlic, roasted mixed bell pepper & eggplant, heirloom tomato & pesto with pine nuts and parmesan. These will be served with our favorite (we're not kidding) fried artichokes and stuffed, battered, and fried zucchini flowers.

Antipasti: Lightly fried polenta with roasted mushrooms, zucchini, bell peppers and summer squash, topped with crispy fried sage leaves and served alongside baby heirloom tomatoes.

Primi: Home-made ravioli with mushroom, ricotta, basil, parsley, and thyme filling.

Secondi: Pesto pasta, 3 ways: Red pesto pasta, Traditional pesto pasta, Lemon pesto pasta. The pasta will also be whole-wheat and home-made, and the basil for the pesto comes straight from our garden.

Dolci: Zabaglione served with home-made biscotti, garden-grown figs, and fresh berries.

We will be serving our selected red and white wines and Italian beer.

If you have any food allergies, please let us know!

We only have 10 available spots so please RSVP soon! You are more than welcome to bring a friend or significant other (or several), but be sure to let us know so we know who we're feeding!

Thurday's Menu

Our next Speakeaterie dinner is coming up on Thursday, July 22nd, so for those of you who couldn't make the last dinners- there is still hope!

This menu was inspired by some of our favorite Japanese foods. While none of us are Japanese, that doesn't stop us from appreciating the culture and the unique cuisine that comes with it. There is much more to Japanese food than sushi and soba, and our goal with next week's dinner is to explore some of the flavors that tend not to get enough attention. Of course, we could not resist putting our own twist on things, so while it is a celebration of Japanese flavors, you'll get a little something extra- really, would you expect any less?

The menu is as follows:

Appetizer:
Onigiri with homemade gravlax and scallion, skewered seared shrimp tartare, served with a side of paper-thin cucumber

Salad:
Chilled cellophane noodles with daikon, green apple, cucumber, and starfruit, with jalapeno and lemon verbena dressing

Main Course:
Two different kinds of beef negimaki: one with scallion, carrot, ginger, and roasted red pepper with a yuzu-miso glaze; the other with scallion, asparagus, and jalapeno, with a plum wine and black pepper glaze. This will be served with sticky brown jasmine rice and fried lotus root.

Secondary Course:
Avocado egg pudding with crab leg, seasoned with lemon verbena and mint

Dessert:
Warm green tea bread pudding with homemade coconut ice cream and caramelized cocoa nibs

We will be offering several different kinds of infused sake and Sapporo.

If you have any food allergies, please let us know!

We now have 10 available spots, which still isn't many so please RSVP soon! You are obviously more than welcome to bring a friend or significant other (or several), but be sure to let us know.

See you all soon!
